I wanted one at one time. After I looked into how difficult they are to keep alive, I decided to just visit them at the aquarium from time to time.

no its not hard and the work to keep them is not hard theres just more of it. seahorses are timid shy and slow fish so they must be kept by therselves or with pipefish. they do not like large aquariums i have a 12g nano cube with 2 brazilian reds and a striped pipefish and a percula clown have had this setup for 2 ears now and they are doing great. the nano cube is a great tank to do seahorses in it is expensive but has reef lighting which you can keep certain corals with seahorses and it also has a full wet dry 3 stage filter built in to the back of the aquarium. some places sell isopods and copepods for food which is real good for them as well as live brine shrimp (easy to raise) and bloodworms i dont recomend feeding flake food to anything seahorses usually wont look twice at flakes anyway

I had a mate who had some once and the tank water has to be kept very clean and slightly salty (special sea salt additive from the aquarium shop) and the right water temperature. Get as much information about them as possible before buying them, most importantly set the tank up a week before getting them.

ya, but it is very hard to keep, they need an expert in saltwater aquariums, you cant keep seahorses with another kind of fish, there diet must contain live food like newly hatched prime shrimps and sea alleges. they are very timed and peaceful, the tank must contain a lot of hiding places you can provide that by using live reef rocks.
but u must have a complete saltwater aquarium setup, the minimum tank size is about 50 gal.. protein skimmer and biological filtration.. so keeping them is hard and expensive..
i don't recommend them if you are a beginner in fish keeping..

They're probably going to be too much trouble to keep, but good luck. I saw them at the Baltimore aquarium. If you're there at feeding time, you can watch them suck things in with their snouts. A second later, a little 'toot' comes out the top of the head as they get rid of the excess water they sucked in.

Yeah, I have had seahorses a few years ago, I think they are cute, but a lot of times they are hard to handle.

yes, you can own them, but most species are protected, so be very careful where you buy them from or you can get into BIG trouble.

also they are very difficult to look after, and, rather boring - they dont do anything other than cling to a plant all day long.... they rarely even move.

why dont you look for a seahorse screensaver for your computer instead. then when you arent using it, you can pretend its an aquarium. hehehe
