Aiwa is still out there. In case you didn't know, Aiwa is Sony's "downscale" brand, and I think it's a better value than Sony. You can get more information on Aiwa products at the brand's Web site, using the link posted below.

AIWA was making the best quality tape decks and rack hifi systems and it was outselling SONY so SONY bought them out and stopped making them in Japan to defunk the brand name and then in time due to the low low quality of the product SONY closed the doors on AIWA... They intended from the start to eliminate the competition from AIWA by destroying the brand.
