G'day,
I'm not trying to be lazy in answering your question, but the best thing is to check thru Yellow Pages, as you can find the list of all available bookshops in Melbourne plus their locations. The links is below.
Hope this helps. Good luck :)

You can't beat the CBD for book browsing. Head to the Bourke Street Mall. At the Swanston Street end you have Readers Feast, one of the largest stores in town, and A&R Book World with a smaller range at cheap prices. A couple blocks North is Academic and General with the biggest range of text books.
At the other end of the mall is a large Angus and Robertson and a couple doors down is McGills with a huge technical and business section and magazine stands, on the other side of Bourke Street is a large ABC Shop in the mezzanine. Head North to Melbourne Central for the new large Borders Books and head south on Elizabeth for Minotaurs for the best Fantasy and Sci Fi collection with new releases and staff recommendations plus a Collins bookstore.

There are many many bookshops anywhere, but your best bets are Borders, which has the biggest range, and a lot of hard to find books, or Angus & Robertson or Dymocks, which are good because there are so many, and as a result, they can usually order books in for you. The web sites are www.borders.com.au, www.dymocks.com.au and www.angusrobertson.com.au, and they all have a list of locations.

I went to a large book shop on Collins St., but neither remember name nor exact address. It should be between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets and has a storey underneath street level as well. Think it's near David Jones.
