You can upload an image by using the Upload file link in the toolbox, which is a link to Special:Upload. On most browsers, you will see a "Browse..." button, which will bring up your operating system's standard file open dialog. Choosing a file will fill the name of that file into the text field next to the button. You must also check the box affirming that you are not violating any copyrights by uploading the file. Press the "Upload" button to finish the upload. This may take some time if you have a slow Internet connection.

Note that some licenses, such as the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike License v. 2.5, require that licensees attribute the work as specified by the copyright holder. After uploading, you may need to manually edit the "Licensing" section. For this example, you would add the correct attribution as a parameter to the {{Cc-by-sa-2.5}} template, which would then appear as {{Cc-by-sa-2.5|Attribution}}.

In brief, the syntax for displaying an image is:

[[Image:{name}|{type}|{location}|{size}|{caption}]]

You should first read the rules that are stated by Wikipedia on placing pictures on the site.

Before you upload an image, make sure that either:

* You own the rights to the image (usually meaning that you created the image yourself).
* You can prove that the copyright holder has licensed the image under an acceptable free license.
* You can prove that the image is in the public domain.or
* You believe, and state, a fair use rationale for the specific use of the image that you intend.

MAKE SURE that you do not violate copyright law!!
that is a crime and you can be sued by the owner of the picture.

Under United States copyright law, all images published before January 1, 1923 in the United States are now in the public domain, but this does not apply to images that were created prior to 1923 and published in 1923 or later. The year 1923 has special significance and this date will not roll forward before 2019.
