The best so far this year is Calgary and the Rangers who went 0-2 away games, then dragged it out 6 games. Ottawa is looking pretty hot going home for the next 2, but let’s give Buffalo some hope and dig up some history. I don’t think it is too rare.

It is rare, very rare!

Teams that have a 2-0 series lead win 87% of the time. This does include teams that lose the first game on the road. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing the chances of coming back after losing two at home are even smaller.

Also,

Detroit had a two game lead on Calgary this year.

Buffalo has a losing road record in these playoffs

If Ottawa was going to choke you'd think it would have happened after they gave up that goal with less than 10 seconds left.

The last time I can remember it happenning was 1977 when the Toronto Maple Leafs won the first 2 in Philadelphia. Then the Flyers came back to win the next 4. That is the last time I can remember it happenning.
> After submitting my answer I forgot about the Hurricanes losing their first 2 at home and then winning the next 4 against the Habs last year. That was after reading other answers. There could have been other times.

Last year in the 1st round Carolina lost it's first two home games to Montreal then came back to win the series. Ironically the first loss was in regulation and the second was in OT just like what happened to Buffalo.

The Hurricanes pulled it off against Montreal in the opening round last year, falling behind 0-2 at home and then winning four in a row to take the series in six. All they had to do was switch goalies. I don't see Buffalo trying THAT trick now though!

Buffalo had a better road than home record. And Buffalo is now better than Carolina was last year (and would have been better than Carolina last year if they didn't have so many injuries). Ottawa will choke. And all Canadians will have to do all summer long is play with their zambonies.

I think it was 2003, the Washington Capitals vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning. So yeah Buffalo still has a chance. It's not going to be easy though.
