The BMW factory alarm is okay, but has too few features compared to most aftermarket alarm systems.

What aftermarket alarm systems can I virtually plug-and-play into the E46 (ie; must use orginal BMW remote key, no extra cumbersome keyfobs) while offering extra features?

I would advise against doing this and stick with the stock alarm. Consult a professional to do the work if you do. It will be someone you can take it back to if it doesnt work correctly.

Stellar alarm systems use the stock wiring.

Go to bavauto.com they have them there.

If you don't stay stock... I with anything besides stellar.
