We should be both inside the arena as active players and also outside as spectators in a disinterested fashion. Difficult though !

Yes dear. The best spectator is the umpire who is most keenly watching the game but does not support the player or any particular team. If you don't treat as a game and just enjoy, you will have losses and gains. The ego starts condensing, which leads to contraction of the Conciousness. the mind gets fuzzy and foggy. If as a spectator, life is thirlling. There is no goal to be achieved. With the production of this body, its destiny has already been written.Just float and go along. All the best.

Sometimes it is good to sit on the sidelines for a while and watch the parade pass. Some call it meditation, only they might say to watch your mind as if you were watching a movie. Don't try to stop it, let it unwind and you'll learn something most don't. But then, of course, you leave the theater, the parade, the sport and go about your life being very much in it, but having a better idea what it's all about and what's really more important to you for having given yourself the time to observe as well as act.

Enjoy!

I believe a lot of people treat it as a spectator sport, and that's really sad, because it's not a game that's meant to be watched - it's meant to be played.

... seems like that is not an uncommon treatment more often than not, regardless of the mask of consideration for others. People watch themselves and see themselves as the best specatator and the best player. They watch and presume that everything depends upon their watching. They watch and project that others watch them for an example. They watch and presume thati bringing their game plan to their imagined fruition is the set-up in which the spectators that they think are all others will participate.
Such is a difficult conclusion to realize for the few and far between lone wolfs.

What if we did, would we look at the sport and find out it was something like crochet? Or badminton? Would we be stunned to find out how boring life really is?

It often is......people sitting on the sidelines of reality ,no involvement in anything, grumbling and complaining. These are pathetic people , some would call them parasites on the back of society.

Life is like tic-tac-toe.

All of us gave up that game long ago.
