How old is your DVD drive? It may not be compatible with DVD-9. If that's the case, you'll have to use a different player.

First, do you have more than one disc drive in your computer? It is possible that you selected the wrong one to open...
Two, if you put in a DVD and it doesnt seem to know it, then it may be simply that you do not have a DVD drive but a CD drive instead. CD drives as a rule do not see DVD's. If it makes a lot of noises when you insert and close the drive but cant open, then you do not have the right kind of drive.
Another possible thing is if the DVD disc is of a movie and you do not have a movie player program, it cant open it, but usually it will at least know it is there...

Some said be sure is the correct drive. I might be wrong, but, at least my del desk top has two drives one for DVD regular cd and one
for the very small disk? I remember long ago this was a square little item... I didn't know one can use that for recording dvds

Setting in windows is turned off that tells the CD to start when inserted. Click on my computer and select the drive that is your cd (normally D drive) and open it if you still have a problem then go to control panel - system - devices - device manager and check to see if the drivers are installed. Install the drivers if they are not their. If the drivers are their update the drivers. If you still can't play cd then the drive might need replaced.

Click on START in the left hand corner..windows explore, 'DVD-RW drive' , then check out the options on what program you want your music/video to open with. Mine did this but I can't be sure exactly what I did to fix it, so just play with it 'til you solve it. Good luck!
