ON THE BEACH IN NEWPORT OR HUNTINGTON??? well that severely limits the choices.

in huntington, there is dukes and chimayo (i think). both are right on the beach. spark woodfire grill is across from the beach on the 2nd floor. it has a very good view of the beach. tuna town IS NOT ON THE BEACH. but it's close.

anywhere in redondo is simply another city...

in newport, there is 21 oceanfront, which is right on the beach. that's the only nice restaurant in newport right on the beach. however, there are a few nice restaurants that have a view of the harbor. the 3-thirty-3, the chart house, villa nova and rusty pelican all have harbor views, but neither of them are on the beach.

The best new - not too expensive - place on the beach in Newport is down at Crystal Cove - it's called the Beachcomber and it is RIGHT on the beach inside the state Park (in the old historic district). You have to park across the street and take the little bus over (there's a fee). But if you're going on a nice day, be sure to go early - they don't take reservations.

While this is in Laguna Beach, the Beach House is right on the beach...well hanging a bit above it. It has gorgeous views from the balcony seating. Excellent lobster thermador!

For on the water, there's Chart House and Villa Nova in Newport Beach. Beach House in Dana Point is on the tip of the breakwater.

there's a really nice restaurant on balboa island ..called harborside restaurant ..soooo good ..pretty pricey ..but the food is excellent ! it's waterfront dining and overlooks such beautiful scenery ..i went there durng the newport beach christmas boat parade and we saw everything from our seats while we ate dinner ..beautiful restaurant ..then you can hang out and shop on balboa island ..or take a walk around the harbor ..however if you want a restaurant with decent prices there's a GREAT italian restaurant located a street down from Main Street in Huntington Beach called Luggati's ..my previous boss owns that restaurant and it is such a great restaurant ..casual dining ..great atmosphere ..food is excellent ..big wine and beer selection ..prices are very reasonable ..it's a happening spot but also low-key ..satisfaction guaranteed ..great service as well !! it's the locals spot ! and you don't have to deal with the chaos going on at Main Street .. have fun!

Fishermans in San Clemente.
Harborside restaurant is on Balboa peninsula not on the island. Also Newport Landing.

Have you tried going to maps.yahoo.com, type in whatever location you want, and under 'find on the map' type in restaurants. From there you see where a ton of places are located and click on each one to find more info including ratings, reviews, and a website if they have one. Sometimes they have menus (with or without prices...)

I use this all the time!

Good luck!
