I'm a north Indian, Punjabi O.K. Your so called boy friend I'm sure must be unfortunately a Punjabi. Now tell me whatever I have been telling you since so many questions of yours' I insisted on one thing it is not the culture that is coming between your affairs its his own weakness that exist in your case, he never had a strong loving feelings for you otherwise he would have married you even without his parents knowledge leave aside permission. He is a liar when he say he was waiting for his parents permission or they refused to give such permission, if this fellow was my son & done such a thing I bet, as a Punjabi father I would have killed him for cheating an innocent girl although a foreigner, we are very much particular/famous for our love, affection, loyalilty, faithfulness, trust, sacrifice. We can give & take life for any of these things, that’s the Punjabi blood in us which is so hot & makes us famous through out the world. No true Punjabi will refuse to give permission to his son or daughter to marry a person whom he or she loves, its utter nonsense if he tells you all such stories. You have blind faith in him that’s why you believe him but he was a cheat who came in your life, played with your sentiments & went away. Now forget him for ever & find another suitable person for yourself, otherwise you'll go psychic one day in his love. This is a fatherly advice to you.

my answer will be based on stereotyping everyone because the levels of culture that families in india stick to differ for everyone. bascially culture is strong all over india. cultures may difer from area to are but they are still strong . not refusing your parents' decision is part of the culture all over india but again it depends on how the person has been brought up
in other words the culture and traditions may vary slightly between regions but they also differ between families.

the culture is pretty much the same in all parts of India. but there are also some differences...regarding food habits, rituals and festivals.
i would love to help if you could be a bit more clear.
The family system is India not very flexible. I mean...children stay with their parents even after their marriages and are very devoted to them. Parent's decision is always looked upon with respect, and that is why it is difficult to refuse them. But then persuasion is always there. But it highly depends on the situations and circumstances...
dunno what decision you are talking about but...Parents are parents afterall and children are children afterall...its the same all over the world i think!

whatever your problem is...best of luck! and don't worry!
:)
