I ask this question because it seems most people have no idea of our freedoms lost throught the Patriot act and how much of the details inside this Patriot act were not made as public as they should be.

to answer your question I have not lost much yet.. but laws make the way for new laws we are like frogs in sitting in water that is slowly rising in temeprature....our minds slowly conditioned to accept these things through media owned by the larger corporations that are controlling our government. In 5 years maybe youll remember this message and see the truth when you no longer have any freedoms to boast about.,

the rights that our founding fathers gave their lives up for are being slowly eroded away by modern day acts like the Brady bill, patriot act etc. and while individuals suffer because of these erosion's, corporate structures grow exponentially from modern day acts like the free trade agreement which is really an oxy-moron. we have now become what our government accused the Soviet bloc of doing in the sixties and seventies to there people. I think that we also called the Russians a terrorist government and had us believing there propaganda. look what "freedom" has done to the average Russian. he could at least eat. If only the voters in this country knew the things our government does without a vote they would think Bin Laden as harmless as a kitten.

Read "ESCAPE FROM FREEDOM" by Erich Fromm
Watch the 3-part BBC series entitled: THE POWER OF NIGHTMARES
It should be available for viewing somewhere on line and still may be down-loadable.
The next book by John Dean will deal with the "Imperial Presidency"
Dick Cheney is the strongest advocate there is for the "Imperial Presidency" and everything that has been happening in the Bush administration can be explained by the neo-cons' relentless attempts to infuse the office of the president with optimum power.
9/11 played right into these efforts.
Maybe we don't exactly want "mommy" government, but we certainly shouldn't want "godfather" government either!

Most don't, especially the kids. We have been slowly, steadily losing our freedoms for quite a while. Just slow enough to not cause a major panic, while being told these sacrifices are for our protection. It's like putting a frog in boiling water--he will jump right out. But if you put him in cold water and slowly bring it to a boil, he will sit there and die, unaware of what's happening to him. My adult children are amazed at stories of how things were (or at least seemed to be) when I was a kid. They grew up being taught "Well if you have nothing to hide....!" That's the line that will sink the ship. Honest people who are willing to give up their rights to prove something to people who have no reason or authority to ask--they don't realize what they are doing. But I still believe that anyone who would give up liberty for 'security' deserves neither. It is a contradiction. Let the 'elected' authorities violate you so the 'terrorists' don't get a chance.

Oh, my, is this a wind-up? you're way off the mark and in case you're in united statesa., it quite is embarassing to study. it quite is exactly this innovations-set that makes something of the international hate human beings. there could be a area of jealousy besides the undeniable fact that that's the lack of know-how of time-honored human beings to anybody and each little thing else on earth that creates the hostility. united statesa. has a historic previous of invading different international places and beginning wars merely for the earnings of united statesa. and not for "freedom". in case you quite have self assurance what you have written, you're certainly, one in all those brainwashed human beings and between the those that I spend way too a lot time apologising for. it quite is top, i've got lived for significant quantities of time in numerous international places and that i'm oftentimes asked: "Why are human beings, or why do human beings, and so forth. and so forth." and that i ought to assert to those human beings: "we at the instant are not all like THAT". In different words like what you have written above. thank you for displaying the international why precisely united statesa. is hated and making it extra complicated for the functional people who do not stay there anymore to get on. Oh, and newsflash!!! In Britain, united statesa. is ripped to shreds in newspapers, television, take a seat coms, dramas, documentaries, comedians and merely approximately all people interest to apply a normal purpose for a rant. As an entire, the Brits hate human beings - confident, there are human beings right here and there however the final consensus is which you're hated not because of the fact of your "freedom" yet if you consider which you have not any clue what's happening contained in something of the international and additionally you think of you have the right to crap on it merely when you consider which you're ignorant to it. staggering. right here is a few loose suggestion: (one million) commute. circulate to a rustic and spend a pair of twelve months there and study some humility. (2) don't have self assurance what your useful government tells you. in case you voted for Bush then you quite are patently brainwashed and of particularly low mind. practice your self. Oh, and by making use of ways, i'm ex-military. study some accountability on your movements and a few humility.

Notice how they circumvent the question with their disingenuous answers.... The idea of a free America is increasingly a myth... I was listening to BBC World last night and people are openly questioning the state of American democracy when a Journalist is arrested and qustioned for plying his trade in Cuba.... Impeach the anti-Freedom, Commander guy. What an embarrassment he is to America?

I'm not sure anyone cares that they have lost their 4th amendment rights to privacy. They don't know if they are listed as a terrorist or not or if they may have been confused with someone else. I'm not sure if they realize they could be named a terrorist and sent to Guantanamo without the right of habeas corpus.
What is really the scariest is the ultimate power given to the president. I never would have thought this would be possible in this country. Our government is very unbalanced at this time.

19 punks knock down a few buildings and we're ready to vote for Hitler to 'protect' us. I'm a citizen of a nation of cowards. There's nothing to fear. We're supposed to be Americans, so let's reach down and find our sacks!
Land of the free, home of the brave. What? A few buildings fell? Bring on the dictatorship! Let's bear in mind that over 2 million Americans die each year.

The Patriot Act is about equal to Political Correctness to me. Both of them should have no place in our lives as Americans.

Most of us haven't that is true. I bet this is a much more serious subject to someone who has lost something due to the patriot act. because the patriot act is not patriotic. It isn't just the terrorist that lost. Some Americans did too. Luckily it doesn't affect most of us.
