I was in the process of weaning myself off Paxil when I got pregnant. I must have taken it for the first 2 weeks, but only 10 mg. I'm totally off it now. Do you think I did any damage that will cause the baby problems if I took it for such a short time? I will talk to my doctor on my first visit, but I wanted to get some feedback to see if anyone else had this problem or something similar.

If your only four weeks along a you only took 10 mg, I sure your baby will be completely fine. The reason that I'm saying this is I took them for awhile and during my first pregnancy, I took 20 mg, and I was worried too and asked the doctor and she said that everything would be fine.
Just recently Ive heard that they could cause some heart defects in infants whose mother had taken paxil during pregnancy, but they are not sure if the can link it for sure.
If you are concern you should talk to your doctor.
If woman is not trying to get pregnant they usually don't find out until they have missed a period. They might have been smoking or drinking or taking drugs, in the most crucial time of the growth of your baby is in the first weeks (when you have no clue that you are even pregnant) . What I'm saying here is there is a lot worse that you could have been doing.

p.s your doctor might say if your pills have been working for you(for depression or panic attacks) it might be beneficial for you and your baby to stay on the pills.

You should definitely talk to your doctor if your still depressed or feeling any signs of depression. I suffered from depression when I found out that I was pregnant. I even suffered from panic attacks and anxiety. I'm about 6months pregnant now. I'm not sure if paxil is one of the anti-depressants that pregnant women can take, but there are many that you can take safely during pregnancy. My doctor was worried that I may need to be put onto them for my depression but he reassured me that with the help of a psychiatrist you can be prescribed medications that are both safe and effective. I don't think that you did any damage to your baby by taking the paxil prior to conception. I took anti-depressants for years and my baby (so I'm told by the doctors) appears to be completely healthy. You were also on a very low dose of paxil so it probably worked it's way out of your system very quickly. Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Don't worry honey. You'll be fine. I suggest the book "WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOUR EXPECTING" It'll answer all your questions. When I was pregnant it was my Bible.
