In short: Total bases from hits (no walks) divided by At Bats (not plate appearances).
Example: Batter gets two singles and two doubles in four times at bat. That's 6 total bases / 4 = 1.500 Slugging%.
Now lets say he gets two singles and two homers in 15 at bats. That's 10 total bases / 15 = .667 Slg %.

The formula (from baseball-almanac.com) is:

Number of (Singles + [2 x Doubles] +[ 3 x Triples] + [4 x Home Runs]) divided by At Bats.

Walks count as plate appearances, but NOT as At Bats.Only hits are used in calculating SLG%.

For example, in 2003 Barry Bonds had 133 hits in 390 At Bats. The breakdown was as follows:

45 HR
1 3B
22 2B
65 1B

Using the above formula we get (65 + [2 x 22] + [3 x 1] + [4 x 45]) / 390

(65 + 44 + 3 + 180) / 390
(292) / 390 = .7487 SLG%

MLB.com also lists the SLG% as .749 Walks do not come into the calculation at any point.

Slugging Percentage is total bases (on hits only - not on walks, fielders' choices or errors) / at bats (not plate appearances)

For instance - if I go 3 for 5 with a double and a walk, my batting average is .600; my obp (on-base percentage) is .667 (4 times on base in 6 plate appearances) and my slugging percentage is .800 (four total bases in five official ABs).

first answer is right. I didnt care to read the second answer because it looked wrong from the start. if you want to check, look up an players stats, TB divided by AB then look at the slg percentage. if the numbers match then there you go. You dont need to break it down like Nate did, there arent points just total bases, a HR is obviously 4 bases, a single is 1. I believe you get bases for a SB

Total Bases / At bats.

Every plate appearance that ends in anything either than a walk, a HBP, a sac hit, a sac fly or reaching on catcher's interference is an at bat

The links below offer a lot of information on baseball stats, basebal lingo, etc. It should help.

To speed things up, since singles data isn't typically available,

SLG == (hits + doubles + 2*triples +3*homers) / at-bats

conventionally to three decimals.
