The arrogant and massively over-rated Douglas MacArthur, who wanted to start a war with China because he did not recognise that in democratic nations the army is subordinate to the government. In fact, it was MacArthur's exceeding his mandate that provoked the Chinese into getting involved at all.

This follows his WW2 experience, where he got trounced by an inferior Japanese force, forced the Australian government to sack successful commanders at Milne Bay and Kokoda, divided the US command due to his personal objective of getting back into the Philippines to restore his hurt pride, and later had the Japanese generals who defeated him in the Philippines, and who defended the Philippines, executed on false charges after a kangaroo court that would have done Stalin proud.
