If the lyrics aren't coming to you, maybe you should put the song on the back burner for a bit. If you try to force the lyrics, they will sound that way - forced. Good lyrics need to be genuine. I recently did this with one of my songs. I wrote the music, but had no lyrics. I found myself playing the song about a month later, and the words just came to me like a flood.

Think of a subject people can understand that no one has tackled yet. Read some poetry by some of the all time great poets like Oliver Wendell Holmes' "Old Ironsides." This was written out of protest of the decision by the Dept of War to use The USS Constitution as TARGET PRACTICE for its newer ships in1824. All the newspapers published the poem and the ship was spared and you can tour it today! ALSO, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "Dark and Dreary." Your lyrics should READ well and KKEP REFINING them over and over and over. Bob Dylan studied poet Dylan Thomas' poetry and read some of Bob Dylan's lyrics and STUDY them!

lyrics are always hard. and i find it hardest when you sit down and force the lyrics. what you need to do is sit back relax close yoru eyes play the song and sing what comes to mind. make this song personal. noone else needs to tell you what its about. thats the beauty of music. this song is yours. all yours
