My father was a very angry Scandinavian man! My sister and I watched him beat my mother half to death almost every night. He never told me that he loved me and never hugged me saying that I would be too soft if he did. He never went to our highschool graduations but says he wants to see me graduate from Harvard in 2009 but I refuse! He hates animals and til this day I have yet to discover what ever happened to my dog Bootsie! She just came up missing oneday!
He's getting older now and says he is better and wants to do right but I don't think I'll ever love him!.......My sister wants nothing to do with him.

Please seek counseling for comfort and guidelines.
you have so many things going on there. counseling may educate you to delve into what makes a person act the way your father did ?
you may venture to forgiveness because I think Buddah once said holding on to anger is like holding on to a hot coal.
Letting go of your anger is for YOU. Healing, learning to love those parts of you that so ache from this abuse.
If you are in Harvard, it is your time to take the gifts to enrich your life especially now. Unless you fix these things, you will once again be short changed. you are now in charge of your life, this moment, you are the boss.
Fill your life with good, love, enjoyment , education, and a future that you deserve.

I'm in a similar situation. I try my best never to see him, he is not worth upsetting my life for.

I don't hate my father but I have no reason to hate him..
If you have reason then stay away from him....
