My lease is ending with a terrible landlord, slumlord really. Also, I just recently found out that I am expecting. When looking for a new apartment, is it necessary, or suggested to let the landlord know that I am expecing a baby in a few months, or is it my own business that I dont need to worry about sharing with a landlord? thanks!

But, this baby isnt a tenant yet........and won't be for several months. Also, what does a person having a baby, have to do with a daycare being run out of an apartment? also, what if a couple was actively trying to get pregnant while looking for a new apartment...would not telling the landlord that also be deceit? also, what if i didnt even know I was pregnant yet??

That is absolutely none of the landlord's business. Landlords are not allowed to discriminate based upon family status. However it makes no sense to give a potential landlord any reason to break the law.

It's your own business, but for your own peace of mind you should probably ask the landlord for a lead paint disclosure before you sign a lease, unless the building was built after 1970 or so. Older buildings almost always have lead paint in them and it's no big deal for adults but can be very dangerous for the baby, especially when he starts crawling (the paint bits fall on the floor, baby crawls through it on hands and knees, then puts hands in mouth, which gets the lead into the body).

It isn't any of their business until after a lease is signed and the baby is born. At that point they need to know who is living in the apartment.

Are you considering running a business out of the apartment? You need to check local reguations to see if that is allowable. Of course, if you are just taking care of your own family or babysitting for friends on occassion then it's no big deal.

Once again, amatures don't know what they are talking about.

You are required to disclose on your lease the number and name of ALL residents of the premises.

While you don't neccessarily need to tell the landlord, it will be pretty hard to hide eventually, wouldn't it??????

My leases require them to list all occupants. I don't care much till the kid is born.

There are several issues here.

Are the tenants running a day care out of the premises in violation of the contract?

Is the child theirs? (Could it have been kidnapped?)

What happens if there is a fire? God forbid, if they all perish, the first person the authorities go to will be the landlord. They will want to know who the occupants were.

Finally, if I had a tenant that mislead me, wouldn't I be justified in not trusting anything they told me in the future?
