I think you would like either. Some cost less, some more. You probably could buy both, but have allergies and a little baby sister. Would you like to play with your cat or walk your dog? If your don't mind expensive, just think about which one you want more, then choose it. Hope I helped!

P.S. How are you, Olivia? And how is Hannah?

But is your home right for a cat or dog? This is what I mean:

Will someone be home during the day while you are in school? Or do both your parents work and you all only see each other in the evening or on weekends?

What about weekends? Do you spend it with your friends at the mall? Are you wlling to take the time to go to a park with your dog, or romp in the yard with him - regularly? Is your home out in the country or do you live in the city? Are you in a house? Or are you in a condo or apartment? Do you have a yard?

If you get a dog and have no yard, are you prepared to walk him or her every morning, noon, and night? Dogs have to relieve themselves you know. If you get a cat, are you prepared to clean the litterbox daily or twice daily? Cats are fastidious and if the box is not clean, they will find somewhere else to do their business. After all, would YOU want to use a dirty toilet over and over?

Are your parents prepared to pay for annual checkups, teeth cleanings (with anesthesia) and immunizations? These are in addition to the office visit fee. Adopting or buying a dog or cat is easy - it's the maintenance that is expensive! Don't be like some of the people who come onto Yahoo Answers seeking "home remedies" because they are too cheap to do the right thing and get proper medical care for their pet. Bear in mind that your dog or cat has the RIGHT BY LAW to receive medical care and that if you can't or won't provide it, that is considered abuse.

These are not toys; they are living beings with feelings. As any canine officer can attest, animals are capable of immense love and loyalty. As someone who cares about animals, you will want what is in their best interest, of course, not simply what YOU desire. I mention this only because many thoughtless people dash out and get a dog or cat without preparation - then find they do not have either the time or the resources to properly care for them. I know you will give plenty of thought to what will be the best match for your family.

Well, if expensive is OK, then why do you ask this question?

Cats are usually cheaper to keep, because they eat less, don't need as much attention, and are less likely to get themselves injured, especially if they live indoors. Also, people tend to spend more money buying extras (toys, treats, etc.) for their dogs than for their cats.

Any animal, though, can one day require expensive veterinary treatment (by far the most expensive part of animal care) so whichever you get, make sure you are ready for this kind of thing. If it's up to your parents, then you should find out before you get an animal how much they are willing to pay if the animal gets sick or injured. If not, wait until you can afford it yourself before you get a pet. If something happened and they weren't willing to pay, it wouldn't be fair to the animal, plus it would break your heart.

As for buying the animal, cats are less expensive usually, though a pure-bred cat will cost a lot more than a mutt dog. It's also much easier to find free kittens than free puppies, and less risky.

All the best with your future pet!

There is no difference. When you have either one you will be spending money. Dogs come in different sizes so some will eat more than others. What you need to decide is how much you will love this pet. It shouldn't matter if it is a dog or cat, you should love which ever one you choose. I have my pets, cats and dogs, because I love them. My inside dogs love to be by me constantly. They love to be petted and want me to play. They make me feel better when I feel down. Cats are fun to watch. They will let you pet them for awhile but when they are tired of it off they go. Just love what you choose to get. All animals have feelings....that is the way we were all created.

I thought that you could only afford one and then you said it's okay if its expensive...... so which is it?

Cats are much easier to take care of than dogs. Cats usually eat less that would make their care cost less......hmmmmmmm but then again cats usually live longer.

i would say a cat is cheaper. but go to your local shelter and check their adoption fees. alot of shelters will offer a package if you adopt a puppy or kitten to get thier first shots and to get spayed/nuetered. but do know that dogs require alot more commitment as they need to be walked everyday. if you can try to adopt, it is always cheaper than buying from a breeder or petstore.
