I have a Dell Latitude D400 Laptop with Windows XP Pro. I'm not sure if this laptop has the optional Bluetooth feature built into it or not.

How do I find out if it has it? And further, if this unit does have the optional Bluetooth feature, how do I synchronize it with my bluetooth device / mobile phone???

After you start your system, press F2 to enter in the BIOS, make sure you are the administrator.
While in the BIOS press Alt +P until you go to the page 3 of 7, use the down arrow until you reach wireless configuration and highlight bluetooth and you can enable it by using the right arrow.
After that enter, esc and save changes and exit

This is a bios option. Replacement of the hard drive will get you by this security option, but nothing else I can think of. Now if the BIOS also has had a password activated, you have another problem. This can be cleared by clearing BIOS and restarting. This has long been a Dell option on the latitudes and inspirons. Makes the machine pretty useless to those without the passwords. The good news is the password is limited to 8 characters if you want to hack it. Three tries is the limit before it locks.

To check to see if you have bluetooth in your pc, right click on My Computer, Properties, then select Hardware device manager. Look for a ZBluetooth entry.

If there isn't one, you'll need to buy one. They are really inexpensive like $15.

XP should recognize it automatically, or you might need to install the software that comes with it.

To link up, you have to trust the other bt device. You do this by a 4 digit number. After that, you can send files back and forth.

I've been looking into that as well and this is what I found...check out this link from Microsoft.

You'll also need a bluetooth adapter for your device and comp to "talk" to each other.

Much Success...
