Melinda thought that all the signs she was getting had to do with her helping the kids. But the kids really needed to help her, because Gabriel and the dark spirits were planning her death for a long time. When Melinda died for a couple minutes, she saw her dad, but he wasn't in the light, it was more of the "dark side." He told her that she had a brother and when Melinda woke up again, she suspected that Gabriel was her brother.

Gabriel is Melindas brother. You have good versus evil going on. Melinda wants the ghosts to go into the light while Gabriel is recruiting ghosts on false promises to block the light so they can't pass over. He wants the dead to be stronger then earthly people. The 4 kids were there to save Melinda b/c Gabriel tried to use the spirits to kill her at the airplane site. They survived the accidents and have seen the light and have special powers.

I think Melinda's father was just blocking her from the light because it wasn't her time. The light was shining behind him like he had come from it. I think he wants Melinda to help Gabriel.
