If you can feel good without taking others down, then acknowledging who you are is fine. If you treat people like dirt and take more than you give, then it's just conceit.

Knowing yourself and displaying yourself are two separate things.
A conceited person feels the need for others to acknowledge their good qualities and characteristics. A person who is comfortable with themselves doesn't need this acknowledgement.

True "being" is a state of disinterest or detachment from others ego reactions and opinions. When you don't care about the question you have solved the problem! Contemplate that for moment and you arrive at the state of mind that is the answer.

I think conceited qualifies to those who are insecure and need to convince others of their good qualities (which they, themselves don't really believe, they are fishing for compliments)
When you are true to yourself, you know who you are and you do not need to brag.
