ok, I know stuff about science and 2 years of physics. I love astronomy and space and time and stuff. but at the moment, i'm getting a little confused about the concept of time.

according to my text book, Under the International System of Units, the second is currently defined as the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium-133 atom. This definition refers to a caesium atom at rest at a temperature of 0 K (absolute zero).

yeah, time will make your head explode...

It is not distance that affects time, but relative speed. For most speed differences, a second is still a second, however with the difference is speed is getting close to the speed of light, then the difference in time can be noticed.

I think that Einstien was trying to get people to understand that time is relative to the observer. Since time passes differently for people travelling at reativistic speeds than for people not travelling at high speeds the only thing that is important is your perspective since time passes differently for the two situations.

time is a very human concept...time is only measured relative to something...a planet cycle/rotation, a system rotation, a galactic rotation etc...with nothing to measure it against, there is no time...time is relative to the observer.

The time is mesured with respect to the revolution and rotation of the the earth. one complete rotation of earth is considered as one day or 24 hours (app) and one revolution is considered as 365 days.

time is subjective......also known as the 4th dimension, everything experiences the passage of time everywhere, but it's effects are relative to the observer.....to a computer a millisecond is slow......to us it's quick, for example...
