Nope there should not be any fees when you transfer from one cell phone carrier to another. Remember that you should not call to cancel your account at Verizon before you port your number to the new cell phone carrier of your choice. Let the cell phone company that you are transfering your number handle that. They will automatically cancel your Verizon once you switch over your phone number to the desired cell phone company.

No, a few years ago congress passed the number portability act, this allows you to take your phone number from carrier to carrier with no fees.
