FOR REAL ESTATE PROS, PLEASE
What color should I paint the outside of my home for maximum resale value? I live in the southern US, if that helps.
BTW, currently, it's pea green.
I want people to see my house and have a pocketbook opening, checking book reaching, check writing reaction. Ya know?

Fresh paint outside is a quick and relatively inexpensive. If often can make a home look like it's had a complete overhaul.

Homes with lots of natural coloring and lighting are very popular. The homes that sell are usually termed light and bright.

My house was white for over a hundred years. Three summers ago we painted it light Grey. I think you need to consider the house colors in the neighborhood. On the block I live on the colors are beige, pale yellow with a horrible pea green trim, a light pink (yes, I said pink), several whites, a light blue, a tan, a eggshell and then my Grey house. I dare to be different. I am not looking to sell my home, though.

I also want to make a quick suggestion. When you buy your next home, make sure you look for something with a good resale value. Here is a site on that topic http://homebuying.about.com/cs/howtobuy/a/home_resale.htm

According to a national survey by Sears Weatherbeater Paints, more than 37 percent of all Americans (23 million households) would choose white as the primary color in painting the exterior of their houses.

In order of preference, the choices are white, gray, blue, tan and brown, cream, beige, green, yellow and, finally, red, Sears said. Color is a funny thing. If I were choosing a color for resale, I'd go conservative. Still, lighter colors work better. A house that is dark isn't appealing. But bold colors are a risk.

BTW, Unless you have been told repeatedly you have bad taste. I see no reason to hire someone. You might call a few Real Estate agents and let them know your house will be on the market.Have them come out and offer "free" suggestion on what you might do to perk it up and increase the resale value. After all, if they list it, they will want you to get a good price, so they get a good commission.

Good idea! The best color for your house depends on a wide variety of factors, including the neighborhood character, landscaping, stories, home style.

I would recommend that you ask around with your friends for a contact that does design. He/she may be willing to come by and give you some suggestions.

Alternatively, many paint contractors will bring color boards from the manufacturers when they come to bid your house.

I recommend consulting an expert. You get what you pay for.

Hopefully, this gives you some realistic alternatives.

well Pea Green sucks, thats not attracctive at all. You need a more natural earthtone type color. I have sold over 500 homes and the more netural the color the better.
Good luck with your sale

The external of my apartment is painted with Gledden latex semi gloss paint. Frost trimmed in Periwinkle blue. 15 gallons of Frost that is an off white and three gallons of Periwinkle blue.

I would suggest checking out other sites that pictures of homes for sale or homes sold.

www.zillow.com
www.mls.ca
www.bytheowner.com
www.forsalebyowner.com

Notice how the sold homes generally have neutral colors. White always looks clean.
