When the check engine could be a hundred of things. The way they set it up it very stupid. If you can have the dealership hook it up to the computer and that should tell you why it is on.
Also check your gas cap. In most cars now a day if it does not seal well or clicks in it will make the check engine light come on.

I have a 2001 honda civic 4DR the check engine light does not come after certain mileage or time. It comes on if there is something wrong or like it was mentioned your gas cap was not fully tight. Easy way to clear it is to either disconnect your battery negative wire for about 10 to 15 minutes or under the hood fuse box there is fuse #6 take it out and that well reset your car computer. Hope this helps

I also have a 2001 Civic. The "check engine" light comes on automatically. After a certain amount of time, or a certain number of miles, it comes on. All it is is a reminder to do a routine check up. If you look in your owner's manual, it will give suggestions on when to do certain checks. My light has been on for over a year. I have just been too lazy to figure out how to turn it off. I think the owner's manual will also explain how to turn it off. The dealership should have done it for you. The first time my light came on, I got my oil changed at a dealership and they turned it off for me. I am sure nothing is wrong with the car. It is just a reminder.

The first thing I would check is that the gas cap is tightly secured.
If the check engine light is still lit after that, go to an advance auto parts or autozone nearest you. They have an automobile codescanner that you can plug into your vehicles auto computer service port. This device will gather the trouble codes and will be able to print out a report of what your problem is. If you're a novice, any parts pro can help you locate where the port is and how to operate the codescanner!
Good luck.

I have a 2001 Honda accord and my check engine light came on too. There is nothing wrong with your car. They have that light come on and and only way to shut it off is to get a service done at the Honda Dealership, its dumb they do that, but they dont want you going anywhere else to service your car. I took my car in to Honda to ask and they told me that its the chip the'll turn it off when I get some service done there, but I didn't need the service. its true.

I have an 01 honda civic ex coupe...and my car has done that many times.... i was told by the dealership..that whether the car has something wrong with it or not....and in your case not because they already checked it....the light will come on. It comes on because you go past certain mileages and the dealership has to then charge you another 250 dollars to turn the light off just because you drive your car.... I've learned an easier way....go to any small car repair shop....like percision tune auto shop and they will turn it off for cheap...hope this helps!!

Check engine light can be everything, however I've owned Honda's for most of my life and like most people here say, it's most likely the O2 sensor which costs 200-300 dollars to fix.

THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS CONNECTED TO THE IN CAR COMPUTER. IT HELPS TO CONTROL A NUMBER OF THINGS IN THE CARS SYSTEMS. YOU NEED TO PUT IT ON A COMPUTER TO FIND THE PROBLEM. SOME SHOPS CHARGE $40 FOR THIS AND OTHERS UP TO $80 JUST TO HOOK UP TO THE COMPUTER. THEN YOU WILL KNOW WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM MAY BE AND GET IT FIXED.
