That's plenty big! If she loves you the ring is just a plus anyway. She'll be more excited about the proposal. The fact that you're building it is even more special. She'll love it.

That ring sounds gorgeous! That would be a good size, but there is this one at Helzberg's Diamonds that I have been spotting. It is a beautiful 2-karat diamond ring. The only bad part about it is that it is $27,999.99. It is the prettiest ring that I have seen in a while. When you say what sizes do you wear, do you mean ring sizes? If so i wear a 61/2-7-71/2, it really depends on the place. Hope that the ring you pick out will be perfect, cuz any girl likes a pretty diamond. : )

As big as the guy can afford. Personally, I wouldn't mind having a "small" engagement ring as long as he makes up for it with the wedding ring. So my advice it that that diamond size is fine for an engagement ring. Congrats and good luck!!

As much as a big diamond sounds awesome, you'd have to consider the size of the finger of the person who'll be wearing it. After all, even if you give her the biggest rock you could find and she's got pretty dainty little fingers, it'll probably be uncomfortable for her to wear anyway and would be too overwhelming, not elegant anymore.
Besides, size isn't everything. Yes, I said it. Size isn't everything. You have to consider the color and clarity of a diamond as well. They're just as important or probably even more in determining the beauty of a diamond compared to its size.

A ring doesn't make an engagement any more than a wedding makes a marriage.
I say, go with what you can afford, b/c who wants to start off a life together already in debt.
I hope your future wife appreciates all the thought and care that you're putting into this. You sound like a wonderful guy.

That sounds like a really nice engagement ring! Maybe go up to 2 carats. She would totally love it, but either way, she will really be happy & proud to wear it! Especially because it's from you!! have a happy life together!!!

I really don't care how big or small the diamond is. I'm just grateful to have someone in my life who loves and respect me. That's just me personally.
I'm sure she'll be happy just knowing that you bought it for her as a symbol of your love.

my center stone is 3/4 carat, and the side stones make up 1/4 carat. all together, about 1 carat. and i love it. it's perfect for me. that's a nice size, but hopefully she's not marrying you for that, but for love. keep it at that size. good luck.

I personally think you should buy as big and as quality as you can afford (within reason). It will be for the rest of your lives together, so make sure it's one you and she will be happy with in 20 years.
congrats!
