I live on a street that has a lot of small children living on it. I am also expecting my first soon... We live on a road that basically connects two exits on 1-95, and is used as a cut through by just about everyone. The town we live in refuses to install speed bumps or speed gates on the road. The posted speed limit is 25 mph, but I am guessing the average is around 40.

I would like to find a radar system that i can hook up to a laptop and record the average speed of the cars so I could present the data to the town to hopefully change the road for the better... Any thoughts on how to do this? or if it is even legal?

City Council already been approached- choose not to address.
We live between city councilman's house and train station... wouldn't want him to be late...
Biggest offenders are commuters running late and construction/landscaping drivers

i don't know about the legality of it but if you know a cop on the force get him to come over sometime and hide and clock them we actually had this done on our street to slow some of the drivers down ,it worked for a little while, and now they drive as bad as they ever did,but you can attend the next city council meeting and bring it up to them its possible to get it changed and monitored also,if they accept the idea, now days its who you know that counts, good luck with this.

It is legal provided you don't put anything on the road.

There are several ways I can think of doing, but none of them are cheap or easy. Perhaps, for the purpose intended, you can purchase a speed gun and manually do the task.

Companies such as Bushnell sells low end radar guns at around 200 dollars. These do not interface with PC.

Call the police department and file a complaint about the speeders on your street. Then also have your neighors complain also. The more, the better. The police department will be compelled to increase the patrols on the street with the trouble.

A trick my wife used, was to call the Mayor's office and register a complaint, and she also mentioned that a number of other residents are complaining and we all vote. The problem was handled that afternoon. good luck to you.
