Why would you want to activie "Windows Firewall". A one way firewall is zero protection and that is what Windows Firewall is. You are only protected from incoming rogue packets, with no protection from outgoing data leaving your pc.

You want a real good free firewall that gives you two way protection.

Turn off the Window Firewall in your "control panel". and download the free zonealarm firewall for home personal use.

You will get excellent two way protection, automatic updates and all new versions automatic via download when available.

Windows Firewall is activated by default, if your XP has been upgraded to Service Pack 2 (SP2).

To check for SP2, right click My Computer then Properties and look under "System" for the service pack number.
