The plates aren't registered to an individual. They are registered to the dealer. That way they can be transfered from car to car. With those plates, the dealers don't have to pay personal property taxes on the cars. The buyers will pay that tax when they are sold. good luck

In fact, there is a very good reason, and it has to do with insurance. If you buy a car and insure it, certain people of particular ages are covered. The dealer has no idea who is going to test drive his cars, so he has to have insurance that covers everyone. And, he doesn't know the skill level of the drivers. When your insurance company gives you a policy on your car, your personal driving record is studied before the policy is written. So if you have a history of running red lights or picking up DWIs, your insurance is going to be sky high. On the other hand, if you have a 30-year record of safe driving, you will get all sorts of discounts. The dealer doesn't know the personal driving history of everyone who test drives a car, so again, the policy has to be as all embracing as possible.
The dealer plates also warn people driving in traffic around the dealership car, that the person in that car may not be very familiar with the car, with the controls, etc.etc. and they should cut him a little space.

License plates are a reference to ownership of a vehicle. Depending on the state you are in a dealership vehicle might have plate that says untitled vehicle which means either vehicle is being test driven or title not issued yet for vehicle. Hope this helps Good Luck...

The reason is that dealership personel can be driving multiple vehicles during any given month as demo's or test drives and so if pulled over by the police, they are not required to show registration of that particular vehicle in their name...the logistics of keeping track of them is impossible.
