Eat right, exercise 3x a week, get a colonoscopy at 50, have your prostate checked every year, have yearly check ups and watch your diet. Good dental health may also be a heart healthy move too.
Course if you have a family history of bad heart nothing you can do will change that. You need to work closely with a doctor to head things off

Take it from a 46-year-old: Attempt to live as if you are still 20, eat better, take vitamins, and sweat like hell!
If you live only a couple miles from work, walk or ride a bike. Watch less TV. Work out 2 or 3 times a weeks, and talk to all the young hotties you can to keep you motivated!
Check with the doc to make sure your blood pressure's OK, check your cholesterol, and do a "body fat check" to determine your percentage. After 40, fat is the enemy, tall mountains and gutsy exercise will definitely make the 20-year-old hotties say, "Hmm...maybe I would, if he dyed his gray hair..."

Mabye you could exercise more often. Try going to the gym at least 3 times a week. You wouldn't need to do hardcore exercising but just walking is the best. Also eat very healthy. Try oaker's oatmeal. They lower your cholesterol.

I'm no expert, but I'm just 40 and feeling great. My wife turned me onto a juice called MonaVie; great for your joints, sleep patterns, and rich in antioxidants among other things. Check it out if you want. www.premierberry.com

Well, after forty... I'd probably suggest lots of walking and moderate swimming. Anything with low impact.
And yes, fruits and veggies. And drink LOTS of water each and every day.
