Is there any memory of your mother that stands out in your memory as a moment of particular tenderness or 'defining moment' of "motherness"

[on this day, those who have lost their mothers might have memories that they can no longer express]

Very good question!

My mom was not very tender, so those memories are few and far between. I still have her, so I think the best memories to date are watching her with my children whom she is much more tender with.

She and my 15 year old daughter went to Europe earlier in the year for 12 days (it was a school trip and Mom went as a chaperone). Once they got back, my mom had to call every night for several nights just to wish her sweet dreams. It was wonderful!

Thanks for the nice question!
