At 36 weeks, I wasn't dilated, but I was at 37.
If you're not dilated at 36 weeks, it's okay. In fact, it's completely normal.

You did not say how much you were dilated. Dr obviously not too concerned yet so don't worry! You are considered full term from 37 weeks on now - those last few weeks are more for the baby to gain fat than anything else. You will (in normal cases) dilate about 1 cm each week now till your 40th, if you make it that long. That way at 40 weeks when you go into labor you should be at about 4 or 5 and up to 6 cm. Don't worry, it will make the whole process easier for you as your body is preparing you for the birth.
Best of luck to you and your new bundle of joy!

I have three children. The first was born at 35 weeks and 5 days. The second at 36 weeks and 5 days. The third at 39 weeks. I had preterm labor with all of them and started dilating at 32 weeks with them all. This is to show you that it varies on how fast you dilate as well as if you are effacing or not. I wouldn't worry about it if your doctor is not. If you did happen to have your child right now they would be ok. My first son was 5 lbs 7 oz and he was not even 36 weeks gestation. Relax everything will be ok.

I personally have complicated pregnancies too. My fourth child was a 36 weeker. She went home with me a day in a half later. I went in to my 36 week checkup and I was 90% thinned and 4.5 Cm's. He put pressure inside my cervix, and while he was still checking me I jumped to a 7. Needless to say, I was rushed to delivery and less than an hour later she was out. My other pregnancies ended at 32 weeks, 37 weeks, 37 weeks, 36 weeks, and 33 weeks. My 5 kids decided not to wait till the doctor said it was okay. Good luck and I hope you are not yet, but let me know if you want someone to chat with later.

Yes, I was dialated to a one, at 36 weeks then had my baby about 2 weeks after that, and ended up having contractions pretty intense ones for about 3-4 days STRAIGHT before actually having my baby about 10 days early. (Submitted to the hospital twice w/ in that week) and sent home once after 2 1/2 hours and once after 12. Get's intense at the end. because I was between a 1 and a 4 for a while and contracting anywhere from an hour to 11 minutes apart at times, makes doing anything including getting comfortable and sleeping almost impossible. Showering was about the only comfort I was able to find at that point and even that wasn't that great. It was a pretty intense time. Anyway, don't worry, you are pretty safe to go at this point. congratualtions and good luck.

I was dilated at 28 wks about 2cm. I had very bad contractions for 6 weeks and had to take everything easy to keep him in there. I was on lots of meds and stayed in bed the whole time to keep him in longer. Obviously it was very painful but at 8 &1/2 months he came out. I wouldn't have wished that kind of pain on my worst enemy but was all so worth it to have him in my arms!!!

I was 11/2cm dilated with my third child at 37 weeks, and 2cm at 38 weeks, and he went to 42 weeks. So for me it was nearly 5 weeks. But there was no other problems, no high blood pressure, no pre-eclempsia, no gestational diabetes. I was happy to keep going and so was my doctor. Is that what you wanted to know?
