i change my engine oil religiously every 10,000 miles and used only Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my 1990 Isuzu Trooper that currently has more 321,000 miles... although my engin is trouble free and still runs smooth, it no longer has the power and fuel effieicy it used to have... can't afford to overhaul the engine or re-do the valves to increase compression... are there any oil additives or engine treatments sold on the market that really really works, such as Restore and Slick 50 that claims their product will increase horsepower and resduce engine friction... or are all those additives on the store shelves merely gimmicks to rip off naive and ignorant people who really can;t afford a big repair bill?

I have personally used Restore and must say the difference is very noticeable. With the first 10 miles, I already notice better acceleration and smoother idle. It worked great for my 1991 Dodge Stealth es with 160,000 miles on it. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Zmax Engine Treatment Reviews

I used restore in a used riding mower i got cheep because the engine was using oil and losing compression. After using restore (at every oil change) I was able to extend the life of the engine for three years before the the rings got so bad that an additive couldn't help. I use Zmax in everything including small engines, I have a 20 year old Honda push mower that runs like it was brand new.

I think you should take the car in to a mechanic and have a compression test ran on the engine. See if it is the compression that is causing the poor performance, or it is some other fault. These magic liquids aren't going to do anything close to replacing worn parts. You can give it a try, and see what happens, but don't expect any major difference. You have beeen lucky to get as many miles as you have out of the engine. That is a credit to changing the oil and using a quality synthetic. good luck.

Has anyone tried using "Restore" engine treatment, or any other engine additives that really works?

SEA FOAM worked great with my car. got a lot of the garbage out of it. Cleans a lot of the garbage out of the engine with will make it more efficient. its like $7 but you can get 3 uses out of it. once every oil change. I put it through a vacuum line. i popped off the brake booster line sucked some of that sea foam in the engine turned off the engine let it sit for ten minutes. Then turn on the engine and let it run. its like a smoke show all the white smoke. I think what would make more sense would be to clean the engine out(with SEA FOAM) rather then just putting in an additive.

most of the big names like STP and slick 50 use basically the same idea just different combonations, you have alot of miles on that Isuzu and suprised you dont have more problems but anyways, i would go to a auto parts store and talk with the help there because you want to make sure that the kind of restore treatment you use is for both synthetic oil and very high mileage or you would run into problems like loose seals and lifter problems some of the restore chemicals dont work well with synthetic and could worsen your problem big time!

321,000 miles and you wonder why it's losing "like new" performance? There are not too many in the 300,000 mile club.
As for the additives, no, not one has ever shown any effectiveness in the real world. People who claim they do are the victims of the "placebo effect". Do a search on oil additives and you will find the facts. Some of these additives actually DAMAGE engines. They are mostly detergents and solvents which are already in the gas and oil we buy in quantities proven to be safe. The exception would be an occaisional use of adding fuel injector cleaner or aerosol carb cleaner as varnish and other gunk does accumulate over time.

I used RESTORE in a 92 escort gt for years. 250,000 miles and it was still running strong when I passed it on to a family member in need.

I believe in RESTORE, SLICK 50 worked on a toyota carolla I had once, it burnt oil like you wouldn't believe, but after using the SLICK 50, hardly any oil burn off after 3000 miles.

GOOD LUCK

really you have done all that you can do and have gotten far more from an engine then is expected be happy with that. Most of the stuff out there is snake oil. There is one that I can tell you wont hurt anything but it may not help much.
Marvel mystery oil. Its good stuff.
