So no other countries in the world have more than one prominant language? I think eventually the U.S. and Mexico will become one. There that's my conspiracy for the day.

For twenty years there has been NO enforcement along the border of any significance. No one seems to care twenty million are here illegally. Companies are free to hire them, sell goods to them, etc. without punishment. It has to be because one day it will all just be one big country. That and we're all greedy you know whats who ride the backs of illegals to save a buck at the expense of sending our nation down the toilet.

Why not have a Mexican flag? Plenty seem to wave that flag around anyway while there here.

Coulterbasher01: Huh? So all history can be traced back to Mexicans? You can't be serious. I am tired of using the idea that someone was here first means ultimatley our laws and rules can be tossed out because somehow its not reall your land to begin with. Guess what we took it. Its bought and paid for! The stupid Indians, or as you say "Mexicans" did nothing and contributed nothing. Survival of the fittest. Kill or be killed. Sorry, but that human nature. Why else are there so many car jackings, robberies, etc. We humans like to take stuff. We all take stuff. The metal in that car you drive, that use to be Mother Earth's. She would like it back!

Good grief! What are you afraid of???

There are 311 different languages spoken in the U.S. Of these, 149 are indigenous languages (native Indians and Alaska natives) and the remainder are languages from all over the world.

82% of the people in the U.S. use English as their first language. Of the remaining 18%, 10% of them speak Spanish. It is the 2nd most prevalent language in America. The rest are made up of Cantonese (#3), French (#4), German (#5) and then several others to a lesser degree.

What you may not know is that before one can become a naturalized citizen, one must be able to speak English. Most people to whom English is a 2nd language, speak English in the business and commerce environment and their native language at home and socially.

So, maybe lighten up a bit. The U.S. is a huge melting pot. People from all over the world inhabit our great country - that's what makes it unique and wonderful.

Also, please know that immigrants have been sneaking into our country for 100's of years and nobody noticed or gave a dam. The government "winked" because big business needs the cheap labor force.

Instead of grousing about it, why not make a few friends with some of these people and learn something.

Don't you know that we as Americans are just borrowing this country, we did all this work to make it the great Nation of today, so that we could then hand it back over to the original owners, the Spanish, Mexican Americans. We don't own this country, no, we took it away from the Mexicans and they allowed that to happen so that we could better it for them and they could then move back here and take their rightful places in their country. Nevermind all that nonsense you heard about the Mayflower, the Vikings, the Wars we fought for freedom, the ride of Paul Rivier, shouting the "Bitish are coming", the Constitution, the Civil War, World War I and II, and the American, Indian War, or anyother falsehoods put out there about how we obtained this country and the rights of freedoms we now posess, the only thing that matters is that the Mexicans used to own parts of this country, and they want it back, regardless of the sacrifices made by my forefathers to turn this country into the land of the Proud and the Brave. So, we give them what they want, and burn the history books. What's the big deal, right? By the way press one if you would like to hear this message in English, otherwise it will automatically change to the Mexican or Spanish version. Thank you.

Look you should already know that any American who can not speak Mexican is a Racist and a Bandito. But never fear - Because even all the Illegals who are high tailing it right now over the border, can't even speak Spanish. They abla Mexican style street lingo.

I have a little problem with something... English is the language of our country---NOT SPANISH !!! If you go to live in ANY OTHER COUNTRY of the world, you have to learn to speak the language of THAT country.......ANYONE who immigrates to this country should learn and SPEAK English...I have seen immigrants from INDIA and Poland and France and Japan and Korea and they all speak ENGLISH but people who speak Spanish are the most reluctant to learn and speak English..... and our government seems to bow to them by teaching "English as a SECOND language" when it really should be their FIRST language if they are going to live here....I have NOTHING against immigrants who enter this country legally, work for a living and pay taxes, but I get a TAD angry when people come over here, EXPECT to get our welfare, REFUSE to speak English when out in public and feel slighted when we don't have everything in SPANISH for THEM..... I also think it is rather rude to be in their homes as a guest and when they converse with EACH OTHER and not you, it is always in Spanish in FRONT of you....... I wonder how long the people of THEIR mother countries would let an AMERICAN do that in THEIR country....probably not too long...my motto is---ya LIVE here, learn the language!!!

Those may be the most prominent languages of the United States, but I don't see Mexico learning English so that they can give AMERICANS free welfare when we illegally cross THEIR borders.

Maybe because those are the two most prominent languages of the United States?
Response to "Additional Details": That's right. Because America is a melting pot like no other country.

Spanish is probably the most spoken language in the U.S. besides English. Therefore the flag is for Spanish speaking people who reside in the U.S. An interesting sidenote there are over 180 different languages and dialects spoken in the city of Los Angeles alone.
