Jehovahs Witnesses Ski, Snowboard, have parties (no alcohol or immorality though) and some have traveled the world and on top of that, they are genuinely good people who care enough to teach people of all kinds about the bible and Jehovah and his son. What compels them?

I want to make a correction to my previous statement. Alcohol is ok as long as it isn't overindulged and used in moderation

It is a discipline based religion that focuses upon Biblical academia. Eventually they'll have to concede the 1914 thing, but for the most part, they're very knowledgable about the bible.

They've done a lot to change some hard held Christian beleifs carried over from ecclesiastical times, such as the pagan influences within Christianity. There have been a few more religious sects that have sprang up since The Bible Students splintered off into Russelism and the JW's that have re-established the ressurrection as opposed to the Greco-Roman Heaven and Hell mythologies.

As far as teaching people about the Bible out of "kindness" I'd have to say that's not quite the case. They are taught to teach people about the Bible as all evangelicals are. The main goal is conversion.

The nicest JW's I've ever met, however, have two things in common. They tend not to be white, and they tend not to be American. American JW's in average, in my observation, have been too hard hit by the temptation for materialsim and classism, which is also against the doctrine. Sometimes they remind me too much of megachurch post-protestants

Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe the bible to condemn the moderate use of alcohol, where legal. Any Witness who chooses to refrain from alcohol likely does so for personal reasons unrelated to his religion.

(1 Timothy 5:23) Use a little wine for the sake of your stomach

JWs are brothers and sisters to each other.

1 John 4:21 - And this commandment have we from him, That he that loves God love also his brother.

Comment for Buzz:

If you open your bible to Titus 2:11 it says salvation is free from God. "For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people."

But Jesus has commission us (you and me) to do works. Also a side note in Revelation it says people will be resurrected by works.

Jam 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their WORKS.

Hi, while your comment is nice, I should correct one thing. We have nothing against drinking Alcohol, in moderation. It is neither forbidden, nor mandatory. I personally don't drink, others do.

While none of us are perfect, we do strive to be nice to others since, among other reasons, this is one of the most basic teachings of Jesus.

He asked to your opinion. You *admittedly rudely* gave it. Why might there be a might desire to 'Cheer him up'?? You of course view him as stupid, yet that would not advise he's, and actually probable your sarcastic attempt to "Cheer Him Up" may be fairly considered as a impolite placed down. flow away nicely sufficient on my own

They are truly religious people who feel that God want people to love rather than conman.

JW's nice? That is a mirage you are in. They aren't nice to their own and they aren't nice to people who they come to the houses of and answer questions.
They are compelled by the organization which dangles the carrot of salvation in front of them. Salvation according to the Bible is by grace through faith. According to the Watchtower, it is by works.
