Projecting is something you must practice, because it is hard to be loud enough without yelling. I used to be in theatre in high school, but I've found that as a teacher, you have to reach the farthest student from you, without being so loud that the other classrooms can hear you. It's taken me a while, but I've found some things that help:
1) Consider what and who you are projecting for. Sometimes, just lowering your voice a bit can make it easier to project. We do this sub-consciously with practice, since squeaky voices don't command as much attention.
2) Practicing in a variety of venues with different audiences. Theatres and similar rooms may make your voice easier to project, while other rooms absorb sound too much. Ask friends and family to help you and use a radio, tv, and other forms of distraction to see how loudly you need to speak over a variety of distances to reach others in different settings.
3) Focus on the farthest person from you and consider them when speaking. You want them to be able to hear you out of everyone, which helps you have a focus.
4) Record your speaking skills and see how loud you think you are versus how loud you really sound. Set a tape recorder at the back of the space you are speaking to, so that you can see how your volume is improving.
5) Ask a reliable source for feedback. If this is just for you to practice, then you can have a friend or teacher or colleague help you set a goal. Otherwise, use others to emulate as models.
I hope some of this helps! :D

1] go to the ocean when the waves are pounding and speak above the noise
2] go to a quiet area outdoors and try to 'send' your voice to a different area [ other person's yard, across the street, etc. ]
3] put a few clean pebbles [ bigger than your windpipe, which is the diameterof your pinky ] in your mouth, and practice speaking clearly. Don't do this one drunk!

You need to practice a few things like enunciation, articulation, your breathing (you need to take deep breathes from your stomach to fill up your lungs; much like a singer), and facial expressions always liven up your voice. Here's a neat little article I found on the subject.

you should speak from your diaphragm in order to speak louder. don't be afraid to sound funny when you try to speak louder. eventually, your voice will be heard.
