For those of us who grew up in New Jersey, it is hard to be objective.

Clearly, he is not a "musical genius".

1. Many of his songs are structured/written in a similar way so his musical vocabulary is fairly limiited.

2. He does not venture far outside the 3 chord rock song paradigm.

However......

His talent is in combining a poetically dense, emotionally astute lyric with an accessible Rock-genre melody. This is the basis of his best work: Born to Run, The River.

He takes moment in a working class life and converts it into an epic poem, as if a high school dropout and his grilfriend were the equivant of Dido and Aeneus.

Bruce Springsteen is not only a musical Genius he is a wonderful person who grew up in the NJ area and often would make surprise visits to one club he frequented in.

He is approachable, loves his fans, and has remained himself with the fame he has acquired. As an Artist he has achieved more then what most artists can achieve and his music will live on long after he is gone.

He was apart of my youth and my life as he was to many young kids growing up. He has participated in countless fund raising events and has given back to the community.

If I were to meet him I would shake his hand and tell him thanks for being apart of my life.

The boss, he entrances everyone, but he is not the most talented musician in the world.
I'd say halfway between musical genius and overrated dud.

Bruce Springteen is a musical Icon, he has his own style and has written alot of good music for other people also ie patty smithe, don henly etc. He is very talented and dont use a pre recorded track to sing too like most artist do. He structures his own music and writes the lyrics. That is talent I believe. Even thought I do not fully agree with his opinions I do see him as a talent. not a talker (rap)

My god, he was so popular in the 1980's but now he is a bit of a dud. The only song he did that I loved was "One Step up" from 1987?? Great song! His big influence was Bob Dylan and maybe he got famous for writting simular story- like songs but with more flash and stage pressence than Dylan.
Yet, I always thought he was a bit over rated myself.
