Can't think of a word. The meaning is something like a pattern or formula to solve a math or science inquiry. It isn't a rubric and it isn't a theorem. It's another word. Can anyone help me? Someone at a fair with puzzles like the Rubick's Cube and other toys used this word to describe how the Rubick's Cube was solved, and I can't remember it. She was Asian and smart, and she said................what? I am at a loss.

It isn't an algorithm. It's another word. Any ideas? Thanks to those who are trying to help.
