would the remaining socialists ever be able to win an election.

I mean come on, the only way a socialist ever won a congressional election was by calling themselves a democrat.

You would think the democrats in the party would be a little tired of being labeled a socialist because of 10% of the party are.

Wow, what a democracy, 10% get to tell the rest what to do.

AMAZING

There is a socialist party but they have limited success getting their candidates elected. The reason is that most people reject the socialist label out of hand while foolishly accepting socialist ideas.

Our Founders realized that if the people are to be self-determining, they must be of good moral character and well educated. The socialists have managed to make morality "relative" or in plain English, meaningless. They have eliminated most of American History and Civics from the public school curriculum. Now our kids are taught only the negative things about our country (as if no other country has any negative things to point to) usually out of any sort of context and morality has become recycling aluminum cans.

This prepares them for the college professors many of whom are admittedly socialist in their beliefs to complete the indoctrination. The only defense against it is knowledge. That and the wisdom of the experienced people is all that stands between the continuation of America as she was founded and the Socialist States of America.

To answer your question directly, many democrats do not realize that they are embracing socialist ideals. Some just want to get elected and will agree to support anything. Some are truly socialists but the party needs the money and support they get from some rather un-American sources.

Dems lost their party to the progressives and socialists. When did it happen? It was done gradually to keep the dems on board. We are being divided and ALL of us regardless of party are going to pay the price. There are to many people who don't believe that, just don't care and then there are those that want it to happen. The democrats think they are in charge however the progressives are really in charge and the dems don't appear to know that. The true democrats have no idea they lost their party and aren't doing ANYTHING to stop it so they can regain their political party. They are taking the role of spectators & cheerleaders at a war that involves the demise of their future as well as our countries future. The progressives are now trying to claim the democratic party as theirs. Republicans & Democrats use to work things out for the benefit of our people & country. Since the progressives entered on the scene they have been working at dividing us to take us over. I see everyone running around thinking progressive means progress. Why do so many people think progress is associated with Progressivism? Is it because the word progress is in progressive? If that is their basis. Is Marxism progress? The progressives are their own party and hijacked the democratic party using the liberal label. The progressive party never could get anyone elected. That is why they hijacked and are running the democratic party. Progressivism is not just an idea but the practice that the government knows best and has full control and ownership over everything including people. Progressivism does not believe in government as it is now. With that I mean progressivism does not believe that representation of the people is needed because the executive branch runs everything and knows what is best. People are the property of the government like animals are owned by people. There is no such thing as peoples rights such as freedom, privacy, individualism etc. If you have ever seen the Borg on Star Trek that would be similar. Progressivism operates under the facade of appearing to be a government doing what is best for the people without their input and silencing all opposition

Several things. First, maybe I could return to the Democratic party. And be proud to vote Democrat. But I doubt it, people want government to take care of them. Second, I don't have to live under Sharia Law, to know I don't like it. Likewise, I don't have to live under socialism, to know I wouldn't like that either. Third, YES, we know it is a representative republic. When people say democracy, we know what they mean. Thanks for the unnecessary lecture on political structure of United States of America. From now on, would you prefer RR or rep repub. Plus a representative republic is a form democracy called liberal democracy. And no, not necessarily the brand of social liberalism that Democrats practice. It can be and should be classical liberalism, like Jefferson, Madison and others wished.

Finally, it's more than 10%, don't you think. I fear the Democratic party is lost. And the Libertarian party is the answer. Perhaps the Republicans can turn back from the statist I see them becoming.

I think more and more liberals are buying into the socialist agenda! Politicians and regular joes alike. Add that up with their PC, multicultural, no discrimination under absolutely no circumstances views and you have a very scary combination. They have anti American idiots like the evil George Soros preaching, lying and twisting facts to brainwash them to his ideals with websites like moveon.org!

I like how every conservative is a greedy, corporate sympathizing, right wing religious nut, war mongering neo-con to a lot of these liberals!

Actually, I think it is more than 10%. If there are any moderate Democrats left, where should they go?
Are any of these moderate Democrats? Kennedy, Durbin, Schumer, Reid, Clinton, Obama, Webb, Boxer, or Kerry. Truthfully, I can't think of any more Democrat Senators right now.

So...

You've never lived in anything that has ever resembled socialism. So inherently you say against it is an uneducated extremely biased guess. Not too uncommon for the right I guess.

Why is that only those who have never lived in a socialist place knock it so much? Why is it those who have lived under democratic socialism don't think it's that bad? Just a question.

I doubt you're capable of being impartial on such a matter though... right wingers are typically very opinionated and fairly uneducated when it comes to talking about politics. Keep it though, maybe you can be the extreme minority that votes Republican next eleciton.

Democracy is NOT the system of Government that we in the USA live under. We live under a Representative Republic --- get that straight. Those who choose to have their voice heard get to govern. Those who are quiet and do not make their voice heard are not represented. That is what a Representative Republic is. We do not pledge "to the Democracy for which it stands..." we pledge "...to the Republic for which it stands..."
