It appears they are obsessed with grandstanding over Gonzales and Iraq. They know good and well the president will veto a troop funding bill containing timetables but they won't let it go. The public appears as fed up with them as with the president.
I'm amazed the dems don't realize this, but extremists are pretty "insulated" from reality.

The democratic congress is no longer sitting on the sidelines and bashing anything and everything GOP - they are now in the position of desperately trying to weasel out of just about every campaign promise they made in November.
They now realize that any real decision they might make can come back and bite them on the a** when the possible consequences of their decision becomes reality.
For instance, they want this to be Bush's war (despite their earlier support) and if the troops are still in Iraq in 2008 and a democrat gets elected president - the consequences of his (or, God forbid) her decisions will lie with the democrats - and if their policy of defeat proves to be disastrous, even the Hollywood elite and the mass media together won't be able to spin it and shift the blame.
Hence, we are getting fed non-binding resolutions and proposals that don't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing - that way, they can avoid any real responsibility because, as you know, you can't make an error if you don't do anything.
Hide and watch as they all jump back on the bandwagon if Bush's policies in Iraq are successful.

Ok why do we keep having to answer this question. I will say it is the lowest it has been in over 10 years. That is because the US citizens expected them to take over congress and get us out of this war immediately. That is the ONLY reason you are seeing low numbers. How can you get things done when everything gets vetoed? For the most part, their ratings are not much lower then they average out since polls started to take place. Congress never has that high of a rating. Ask this question in say October when Bush still has accomplished nothing and even the Republicans in congress turn on him. These approval ratings will be the exact opposite. I think they are doing a fantastic job. Unlike what you have seen in the last 10 years where republicans pass junk bills that Bush asks for in a week that screw us over, these Democrats are trying to take things slow and make sure the right bills are passed and the right decisions are being made. Do you give someone a grade in the first week of class, or when the class ends? Give them time, they have dimwit right where they want him.

They are retarded and they are wasting time, i am a democrat and this troop surge is the only thing I have agreed with bush on since he claimed " Mission Accomplished"
democrats only get elected when the republicans screw up so bad that even republicans dont like republicans anymore.
I dont like em just for the simple fact that our counrty went from having a 211 billion dollar surplus to a 500+ billion dollar Deficit, in less than six years. Thats and 700 billion dollar spread. That is just re god damn diculous, and we all just sat back and watched it happen. Were we all asleep? also because they are so hung up on abortion, They shouldnt even be wasting time or money on it, it is none of their buisiness, period. and both parties are to blame for that.
I hope those idiots get something done soon.

They are not interested in stopping the war. They want to keep it going till the next election and blame it on Bush. They just want non binding resolutions to act as though they want out, but dont really want this to happen because they'll lose a big voter issue.

There's a reason why the Democratic party's logo is an
***(mule). Because the Democratic party leadership is too stupid, just like their compadres on the Republican ticket, to understand what it means to really lead a country instead of abuse the system to try and get what they want, even if they know they shouldn't reach for it.

That was said by Nancy Pelosi. She believes it is her right to be liked, regardless of what she does. So, she is doing what makes people dislike her. She went to Iran, and LIED to the Iranians, and got caught with her guard down. She reported something which never happened. When another Republican ascends the white house steps to the oval office, Nancy caused it, by being a socialist Democrat (not Democratic).

They are not getting poll numbers as low as Bush.
A lot more support them than oppose them - and a lot more want them in power in 2008 than don't.
May I ask where you got your poll numbers from - I note that do not make any effort to provide a source - or did you just make them up. Denial is a sad thing - face it - you guys are toast!

Theyre not going to get a damn thing done. Theyre typical politicians. They only care about getting in power and staying in power. Theyre just pathetic power hungry vote-whores.
We need some serious change in this country. I'm sick to death of these bastards, from both parties!
