I am currently majoring in English, but I'm wondering if there is a better major (aside from Pre-law because I'm not 100% sure yet) out there for someone who may decide upon Law school.

Gosh, I was going to say pre-law.

Actually, English isn't bad. Communication would be better; lawyers' most important work is talking, not writing.

Law schools might take any undergrad degree if the applicant looks impressive in other ways.

I'd look into LSAT preparation so you can post a really high score there--Law Schools like high LSATs.

Consider joining your college's debate team. Law schools often think that learning academic debate is good preparation for building a case.

Find a way, if you can, to work (even volunteer) for lawyers--perhaps at the local legal aid office or a similar public-service legal program. Meeting real attorneys will permit you to ask them questions and later to get letters of reference from them for your law school application.

Doesn't matter what degree you get, in fact a pre-law degree won't help you one bit in getting in law school over any other degree. Many pre-law majors regret getting that degree because then all they know is law. If they had changed their mind as an undergrad (as many do), then they would lose a lot of credits.

You will find most lawyers have undergrad degrees in fields other than law (english, history, poly sci, etc). Just get it in whatever interests you.

Well, That depends upon what KIND of law you are wanting to practice. Are you wanting to go into Business Law? If so then a Bachelor of Business Administration would be good.
If you want to go into criminal law then you could get a Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Medical malpractice? Then get a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Best Wishes!

Any degree is fine, but an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement is a help. My nephew found this out after consulting with his adviser in college. He's headed for law school now.

NO NO NO. Don't do prelaw as a major, do what you like. English is perfect, it teaches you how to analyze and write well, other good majors are History, Economics and Political Science. Anything that applies systematic analysis to human applications, in fact. Good luck

it doesn't matter..one degree isn't better than another when applying for law school..

my advice: chose a degree in which you really excell rather than something you'd like to try...that way you'll get the best grades and will have a better chance at getting in..

for example you might wish to try pre law...but you'd get better grades at say pol.science or history...
get the pol. science degree instead...you'll get into law school ..noone will care what your degree is in and you will never have to work as a pol science person

My daughter majored in journalism. I think English is good -- it gives you carry-over skills.
