I am pro gay rights and I have decided to write a persuasive essay on the matter. I need three solid reasons why gays should have the same rights as everyone else. I know it is pathetic but I can not think of anything besides we are all human.

Gays, Lesbians, and Transgendered are discriminated against every day! They do NOT have the same rights as everyone else! From the jobs they can have, to medical rights and coverages for their partners, to child rearing! What a person does in their bedroom has no effect on the kind of person they are. You can still be a good mom, a productive employee, and make the best medical decision for the person you have loved and lived with in a long term relationship!

One very good argument in favor of gay marriage...

When a gay man or woman dies, assuming they have no children (previous marriage, adoption), there is no one legally responsible for their debts. In a heterosexual couple, if the wife dies and leaves a $10,000 hospital bill, the husband is responsible for paying that bill (in most states, at least). Same for credit card, car note, all debts pass on to the surviving spouse. But since there is no legal responsibility between a gay couple, the surviving partner has no obligation to pay off any of these debts. When you consider that even a short-term hospital stay can run up to $100,000 very quickly, that's an awful lot of uncollectable debt that the hospitals have to dump. Which in turn is passed on to the rest of us, in the form of higher insurance, higher medical bills, and cutbacks at the hospitals.

I am not saying that allowing gay marriage would solve the health care crisis but the hospitals should not get stuck footing the bill just because no one is legally required to pay it. Same goes for the banks, mortgage companies, etc.

I only feel that "Gays" should only be afforded the same basic rights...as anyone else in society! That said...I do not support any (Specialized or Privileged Right's) for any group of people! And No? I do not have to be legislated to "accept" their lifestyle choice either,or for that matter...have it Governmentally rammed down my Throat! If they are asking for such "Right's" as Tax Equity and things such as Criminal Assault upon them-fair enough! But if they are asking for "Preferential Treatment" or "Universal Acceptance" or Governmental Promotion of their Lifestyle choice-than that is where I draw the line! I'll quote a famous "saying" by one of Canada's most notable and contraversial Prime Ministers...Mr. Pierre Elliot Trudeau. Quote. The State has no Business in the Bedroom's of the Nation! I never cared much for Trudeau, but I have to definately agree on this statement!

Just because a person has a different sexual preference doesn't mean the do not deserve the same amout of rights as other people.
There is nothing the prove that Gay people are different in any way other than sexual orientation to other people.
Being gay does not impare your judgment, it is not a handycap or a disability.
All people are created equal and should be treated equal.

Because it's unconstitutional. That is one of the debates on it, if I remember correctly from my family law class. I believe my professor said something to the effect that it does not state that it has to be a man and a woman. That is how we have bi-racial marriages. I personally don't see what the big deal is. No, I particularly want to see two people of the same sex going at it, but I believe every person has the right to be happy. It's none of my business as long as a woman doesn't try to hit on me.

You seem to have a bit of a mixed up view of what rights are. A right imposes no obligation on another person except to not interfere with it (for example, the right to free speech or the right to property). An entitlement (which is often called a right nowadays) requires others to provide it (think of the "rights" to a compulsory education or to health care). Likewise, only individuals can have rights because all collective "rights" are actually entitlements. Entitlements can best be described as a form of slavery.

To grant gay "rights" would mean protecting "rights" such as the "right" not to be offended (a blatant violation of free speech). To grant a "right" of nondiscrimination would violate the property rights of others. To force a businessman to serve somebody he doesn't want to is to enslave that businessman. As a customer, you would discriminate in your choice of business.

Our society needs to learn what a legitimate right is once again, to prevent entitlements that violate rights from being regarded as rights. We need to stop the practice of granting special privileges to designated victim groups and attacking the "victimizer," usually wealthy straight white men, usually with good looks. We need to stop violating the rights of others in search of phony "rights."

The way I look at it, if my children were gay or lesbian, I would want them treated the same as everyone else, with equal rights and everything. Thats reason enough for me. I dont need two more, and neither do you to be honest.

Gay rights is like the civil movement for African Americans in the 60's. People just don't like it because they are not used to it, and until there a turnover to the majority of people actually coming to their senses and realizing that gay rights won't affect their life in any way at all, its just going to be the same for them as it always has.
