you can take a quick look at it and see if its bent or anything,if it was broken you couldn't steer it,so if you can still drive it its still together, but they do bend real easy if you hit a curb with them, sometimes even a big hole in the road will bend them ,but one good look at it,and you,ll know, good luck with it.

If the tie-rod was broken, you couldn't steer it. The tie rod end may be worn out and loose. Jack up the car, with the load off of the tires, pull and shake the tie rod, watching for excess movement in the tie rod ends. The only movement should be a twisting action of the ball and socket. No looseness is allowed. Good luck.

Tie rod ends wear out ,, they are a ball and socket type joint ,,
If you have any up and down movwmwnt in the joint the tie rod end is bad ,, it the tie rod is broken you will probably be able to see it hanging down if not draging the ground ,, in this case you will be unable to steer the car at all ! !

You would have a hard time keeping the car on the road if that was the case, because the wheel would tend to go where it wanted. The easiest way to tell is to stick your head under there and look; all those suspension components are easily visible.

Go to the front wheels, put your hands @ 9 &3 o'clock apply pressure alternating in opposite directions. if you have more than 3/8 of play in either wheel you may need front end work.
