Unplug the network cable from the ethernet port (RJ-45) on the computer. Reset the modem or router. Follow the instructions below to remove and reinstall the ethernet device.

For Windows XP: Click on Start Right click on "My Computer" Click on "Properties" and "System Properties" will open Click on the ‘Hardware' tab and then click on "Device Manager". Device Manager is in alphabetical descending order. Locate ‘Network Adapters' and click on the ‘+' Under ‘Network Adapters', locate the network card and right click on it Select ‘Uninstall'. The computer will confirm whether or not to uninstall the device. Click on ‘Yes' to confirm. The network card will be uninstalled and will disappear from Device Manager. At the top of the Device Manager window, locate and click on ‘Action' then on ‘Scan for Hardware Changes'. The network card should return under ‘Network Adapters'. Close all current open windows. Restart the computer.
