It depends on what kind of oak you're after. Louisiana and Mississippi both have lovely live oak scenes, my favourite being the Oak Alley Plantation in LA. Here's a picture:

But that's just live oaks, there other kinds that grow well in the south, but none are quite as striking. Both states have very nice living conditions, apart from the seasonal thunderstorms, occasionally severe. The summers can get pretty hot, and if you have allergies it gets miserable. The witers, however, are mild and if you live in the northern part of the states hurricanes are not a problem.

HI, I'm from Alabama so I may be a little bias on this answer. Alabama is home. we have the mountains to the north and the white sandy beaches in the south. And yes we have some beautiful oaks here, the "live oaks" in Mobile with there low hanging limbs are beautiful. Unfortunately most of the state is covered with pine. The coast of Georgia and the Carolina's also have some pretty oaks. But for the most oak I'd say you need to head to the mountains. In West Virginia, a pine is a rare sight, the state is full of oaks and hardwood. The best advice I can give you, is hop in your car and go see for yourself. Happy sightseeing.

I'd definitely have to say Georgia---especially south Georgia, like, on the coast. Check out Cumberland Island---it has HUGE, arched, beautiful live oak trees. (I just went camping out there a few weeks ago, and it was phenomenal!)
In fact, the live oak is Georgia's state tree, in case ya didn't know. They are SO awesome!(And they make GREAT climbing trees, too!) I LOVE my "Empire State of the South"!

:-)
