If you are running Windows XP you will probably not notice any difference.
If you are running Vista there will be an improvement. There may be very little improvement. for applications that are not memory intensive.
To determine what memory options you have go to Crucial and run "scan my system". Note this does not check the speed of your installed RAM. You should order RAM that is the same speed or faster. If you use RAM with two different speed ratings, all your RAM will run at the speed of the slowest RAM installed/

You will probably have to look at the RAM to determine the speed. Many laptods have an access panel to change or add memory sticks.
Add more memory to your computer

The answer depends on how much of your RAM is used currently. If you have lot of applications running then the memory upgrade will help significantly but if you use your computer mainly for Internet and occasional word processing then you may not notice a lot of difference.
The type of RAM will depend on the model of your Toshiba. Ask a sales rep at a computer store. And don't be surprised when they tell you need to get 2 1GB of memory to upgrade. Laptops normally only have 2 sockets for RAM and both are occupied by 512MB sticks.

You will likely not notice the difference.
If you go into Task Manager and check the Performance tab, you will see how much memory is being used when you have your programs running. It's likely in the 400 to 500mb range. If so, 1gb is ok. If you get up to the 1gb area, then 2gb is needed.
Also, if you are running Vista, then 2gb is very useful.
If you don't know what memory to buy, the systemscanner tool at www.crucial.com will tell you what you can use.

It's been said that you can never have enough money, and the same holds true for RAM, especially if you do a lot of graphics-intensive work or gaming. Next to the CPU itself, RAM is the most important factor in computer performance. If you don't have enough, adding RAM can make more of a difference than getting a new CPU!
Just to to a retailer that sells memory and tell them what type of computer you have, they will be more than happy to sell you more RAM. I watch sales.. myself.. good luck

Depends on what you are doing and the memory that is being used. Goto the manufactures website and look at the type of ram your computer uses or go here www.Crucial.com Once you know the ram type goto these sites to compare prices:
www.tigerdirect.com
www.cdw.com
www.ebay.com
www.4AllMemory.com
good luck
p.s. you can also refer to wikipedia.com to define any terms you are unfamilar with

Your nearest tech store. How much faster will depend where the comp is topped out at. They all have a limited upgrade.

you will notice a difference in the speed but memory alone will not make it any faster than the processor speeds limit. ebay has great deals on memory alot cheaper tham a computer store.
