I'm an actress and my company and myself are ready to start a new play. We're searching for creative ways to advertise ourselves, we work independently and have almost no funding, what do you suggest? I'll appreciate all ideas greatly!!

Whoever has a myspace should post a bulletin or an event to all their friends, with all the show info on it. Also give them a short summary of the play that leaves them wanting more. If you have made a poster for the show, download it and put it on the bulletin. Then ask your friends to help you advertise by posting a bulletin You easily reach thousands of people because everybody has like hundreds of friends. And the best part? ITS FREE!

A trick I used in college for a new group was to make modest sized card announcements (there were size limits on paper bulletin boards) with a very distinctive color overall or a bold boarder so that once a person had seen the card, everytime they glanced at another board and saw the pattern they would be reminded of the event.
Make a list of every radio, TV, newspaper, and network list that provides free access and their deadlines (in by Monday to get in Thursday's listing) and get on shows, etc.
Ask nearby businesses about showing or handing out cards. If the area is not NYC and the play is moderately serious, leave cards with libraries and bookstores, art supply, etc.

Stick pieces of paper on every wooden post you can find in your local downtown area. That 's sure to bing in the crowds.

Good luck with your play!
