Help, My father told me I should start weaning my son from breastfeeding because he is 7 years old. I would like to continue for another year. What should I say to him?

Ok I sooooo hope that you are joking. Your son is 7 years old....that boy is old enough to wash a small load of clothes, wash the dishes, and make himself a bowl of cereal. Why is he still drinking from your breast? This situation became inappropriate when he turned 5 years old. Now I am an advocate for nursing your children, but when they are old enough to walk up to you, pull up your shirt, and pull out your breast...then it is time to wean them.
Honey you are lucky to not be in jail, some people are not kind to nursing moms when the child is an infant...your child is 7...you are very lucky the intolerance hasn't reached you...someone could easily mistake this for sexual misconduct with a minor. But I think my biggest question is how does your husband feel about this? How is your sex life, because I can not fathom a man wanting to suck the same breast that a few hours ago his 7 year old son was on.

Uh. I think breastfeeding a kid at 7 years old is a little unhealthy.

Wow, never even heard of that, if he is 7 years old, maybe let him go. But if you need to keep going, tell your dad to mind his own business, I guess. Good Luck!
Most people breastfeed to 2 years.

is there a reason that you want to breastfeed that long? i've never heard of anyone going that long, most people stop around the age of 2. i would talk to your pediatrician see what he/she says about it.

i would be very careful if your father is this concerned he might involve DCFS and that might be a good thing.
