I think it is a wonderful idea for you to get a summer job.A job will give you money you have earned and a sense of pride in paying for something with your own money.McDonalds is a good start.I believe they also have scholorships available which can be a plus. You could also apply to clothing stores, music shops, shoe stores and trendy boutiques. Your area may also have a student employment office listing student summer work available in your area. They may be able to match you up with a job that will match your interests.I don't know if you like working with children but most communities have summer day camps for kids and you could be a camp councellor.Your local library may hire students for putting books back on shelves and summer programs in the childrens area (story time, crafts ,etc). I'm sure you will be able to find something you will enjoy doing.Good luck in your job search. Take care.

Being that your 16, you cannot legally work more than so many hours a week (each state varies). If you're in school, this is especially so. Fast food places are good starter jobs and baggers at grocery stores. But you need to find out the child labor laws in your state. Most states will not let you work more than 15-20 hrs a week (school or no school).

Offer to babysit for a family during the day at their house.
Work at a grocery store, bagging groceries.
Work at a garden nursery and work with selling plants.
Many restaurants and ice cream shoppes can really use summer help.
Mow lawns and do yard work.
Retail shops at the mall sometimes offer employee discounts.
Just let them know how many hours you can work and that it is only for the summer when you apply. Let them know you don't have a lot of experience but you are willing to learn!
Good luck!

Please don't do McDonalds. Ding, Fries Are Done.ugh
I have done housekeeping, it really gets you in shape, I lost 35 pounds in one summer and I was pregnant. Toned me right up. Wore a bikini til I was 6 months along.
I started in pizza when I was 18, it was hard at first, because you need to multi-task, and be smiley and cheerful to idiot customers. I liked the food at first, but now, I can't eat it. So sick of pizza.
I want a job at a theater now, I think I've done enough hard work. A movie theater job can't be as backbreaking. Try for a job at a department store or a smaller mom and pop shop. Any job you go for will train you their way. You really will need to sell yourself to land the job. and once you get it, learn and try to do everyone else's job better than they do it. The boss will notice and maybe bump you up in pay and hours. You won't get 30 hours a week right off the bat, they will need you trained first. Once you start proving to them that you are worth 30+hours a week, then they'll up your hours.
Good luck on your job hunt, you should start now to beat out the college kids returning home for the summer.

You are spoiled and maybe that is why your father wants you to work 30 hours a week. Since you are 16 and is almost 18, he wants you to work hard and understand the value of hard work and stop acting like a spoiled brat. You should talk to your school about the types of summer jobs that they are offering.

Supermarket's are known for hiring teens for summer work, as well as retail stores like AE, GAP, Old Navy, Hollister, Abercrombie, etc. You could also seek out positions at pizza places, coffe shops, bakeries, or a general store. Lot's of office-based businesses hire teens for summer interns. The best thing to do is get a piece of paper and write down a list of places you think you'd like to hold a job at, and then visit those places and get applications. Check your local classified section too, they can be helpfu. I hope you find a job you enjoy, and I wish you the best of luck this summer!

My first job was waitressing. But there are many, many options for you. Think about things that you like to do. Do you like to shop? How about a job at the mall or a local store. Do you like movies, there's your local theater. Other possibilities are:
Car Washes
Restaurant
Local YMCA or anyplace that needs help with summer camp kids
Church Daycares
Fast Food places (yuck)
Grocery Stores
Pet Stores
Good Luck and have fun!!

Telemarketing. Waitressing. Get a job at McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Burger King, ect. Go apply for everything and choose the one that you think you can deal with the best.
If you're spoiled, I have to say, good for your dad....he's trying to teach you work ethic and the value of money now, before you're on your own and run through all your money and run up tons of credit card debt.
