I am selling my laptop vir Craig list, and a guy contacted me saying that he wants to buy it. The guy asked me to let him know my mailing address, my land phone number, my name, and zip code suggesting that I can send the package after cashing the check he is going to send with my info.

I hate to be a worrisome, but I need to make sure if he is not scammer.

So, my question is : can anyone cheat me with just my mailing address, phone number, zip code, and name?

Craig's list has some good and some bad on that site. Keep in mind the latest news I saw off the news channel. A woman who did not happen to be home (away on vacation I believe) who was called back home by neighbors who were concerned she was moving out.

What happened was that someone using Craig's list knew she was gone, and had a yard sale selling off all her stuff.
So I would be really leery about anyone asking for all the info you say they want.

I would suggest contacting Craig's list and inquire with them about your concerns. I'd say go with getting a post office box at the post office. Leave out your phone number out on purpose sending your info. If you want to see if anyone can find your residence - just use these two links and put your phone number in, or your name, city, and state and see what pops up. You'll be surprised that they can even be given directions to your place using these links - as well as map your location. So even your name, city, and location would give them what they needed if they were out to rob you blind. It's really hard to tell who is and who isn't out to screw one over these days.

NOTE: Ebay can also have their fair share of rip off artists. Especially with the counterfeit checks that hold you responsible if your bank cashes it or deposits it in your account without verifying that it is indeed counterfeit.

I wouldn't give out the phone number but the other info is necessary if he is going to send a check.. If it worries you to give out address, etc. rent a post office box and have him send mail there.

It is possible. Once they know some stuff about you, well, let's say google is your friend. You can search for anyone and anything, police records and other things like it. You can't be sure if he is a scammer though.
